Common Questions
Where is Peru?
Peru is located on the west coast of South America. It is a country that has an unimaginable amount of poverty, yet many of the people there are very eager and open to hearing the gospel.
Peru is made up of cities like Lima that look almost like what a city looks like in the United States, but then there are hundreds of villages surrounding each city that looks as if they date back to biblical days.
Homeless and Abandoned Children
There is a huge contrast of the sights of the cities and villages. The capital city Lima has a devastating and heartbreaking problem with parents abandoning their children. Countless children (including newborns) are abandoned each day by their parents. The children have been found in garbage cans, on city buses, on beaches, under bridges, and every other imaginable place.
The children are declared abandoned by the courts and placed in holding tanks. The courts then works on either finding the parents, or finding a children's home or orphanage willing to take them in.
Why does this type of thing happen?
The main reason seems to be poverty and hopelessness. The answer to this heartbreaking problem is Jesus Christ. When people know of His love and grace, they can withstand any trials and tribulations that are placed on them.
What do Peruvians believe?
Most of the Peruvian people consider themselves to be Roman Catholic. Yet, when asked to elaborate have no idea what it means. We hope that through our work in Peru that we will be able to share with them the love of our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sins, then rose from the dead three days later.
